Child Charged With Carrying BB Gun in WP Store

The following arrest information was provided by the White Plains Police Department, it does not indicate a conviction.

A White Plains child was arrested Monday afternoon after store security at Target found a BB gun and packet of BBs hidden in the child's backpack.

Police say the child was stopped by security near 1 City Pl. after an employee believed he had seen the youth shoplifting. Store management decided not to press charges after the property was returned to the store, police say.

But security called police after finding the BB gun—a spring-loaded Pietro Beretta handgun, police say. The child, whose age and gender were not available in police records, was charged because children younger than 16 are not legally allowed to carry BB guns.
