News 12 reports that the boy—identified as Jason—was living with Manuela while she was battling his father, Briarcliff Manor resident Dr. Tim Reish, over custody of their son. They report that the incident was an attempted murder-suicide.

Dr. Reish was an orthopedic surgeon who was part of the Insall Scott Kelly Institute (ISK). According to the practice's website, he specializes in sports-related injuries and had extensive experience working with Division I athletes.

There was an eerie sense of calm at the Continental View Complex Monday, as VOM Police and news' trucks crowded the narrow driveway in front of the complex, with no residents coming or going.
