Neighborhood Know-It-All: District Honors Retirees, Landlord Ticketed After Roof Collapse Flag Day

1.) School District Honors Retirees and Senior Staff Members

The White Plains Board of Education will hold its regular meeting at 7:45 p.m. Monday, June 13 at s Media Center. Those retiring form the district and who have been on staff for 25 years or more will be recognized. Click on here to see the full agenda.

2.) Flag Day in White Plains

White Plains will host a Flag Day celebration on the steps of, 255 Main St., Tuesday, June 14 at 4 p.m. Enjoy an explanation of flags by Mayor Tom Roach, poems readings and music.

3.) Neighborhoods Monthly Meeting

The White Plains Neighborhood Council of Associations will host its June meeting Tuesday, June 14 at 7:30 p.m. at the , 5 Homeside Ln. The meeting will include presentations on gardening, public safety and the Furniture Sharehouse. Councilman John Martin, appointed to the White Plains Common Council in April, will also make a presentation on his background and vision for the city. Click here to read the full agenda.

4.) Landlord Gets Summonses After Roof Collapse

According to The Journal News, Dr. Joseph Castelano of Tarrytown was issued summonses for replacing a roof without a permit after a June 9 storm that caused the ceiling on his apartment building, at 19-27 Odell Ave., to collapse.

Fourteen families were displaced by collapsed, which caused water damage throughout the building and down to the basement, The Journal News said. Two of the families are with relatives and the rest are in a hotel, which is being paid for by Castelano, according to The Journal News. Click here for the full story.

The Jacob Burns Film Center—364 Manville Rd., Pleasantville NY— will present student-made animated films from June 13 to the 16. The theatre will screen a film by fourth grade students at on Thursday, June 16 at 6 p.m. Click for more information. The event is free and open to the public.
