Police: Baby-Holding Shoplifter Arrested

The following arrest information was provided by the White Plains Police Department, it does not indicate a conviction.

Two White Plains women are accused of bringing an infant along as they stole $653 worth of merchandise from Sears this week.

The women, one 23 the other 25, were arrested Thursday night. Police say the women walked through the store together at about 9:20 p.m. The 25-year-old was carrying the infant, the 23-year-old pushing an empty stroller used to conceal merchandise, police say.

Security noticed the thefts taking place, but both women fled the area after leaving the store, police say. Police caught the 23-year-old at the Citgo gas station at S Lexington and Fisher Ave., according to an arrest report. The 25-year-old, still carrying the infant, was located near the intersection of Chatterton Parkway and Battle Ave., police say.

The 23-year-old was charged with petty larceny, a misdemeanor. The 25-year-old was charged with petty larceny and endangering the welfare of a child, misdemeanors.

Both women were held for court.

Child protective services was called to care for the child.
