Eric Hoffstead, of 1 Westhelp Dr. in Greenburgh, is charged with robbery in the first degree as a suspect in Monday’s robbery at the TD Bank, 495 Central Ave. in White Plains.
White Plains Police, with assistance from Greenburgh officers, arrested the 40-year-old outside of the Central Motel, 441 Central Ave., just five minutes after a description was broadcast on police radio, White Plains Public Safety Commissioner David Chong said.
The robbery began at the bank at 485 Central Ave. around 8:35 a.m. with the robber giving the teller a note. The teller immediately set off the alarm after the robber left, and gave police a detailed description when they arrived.
Police shortly thereafter allegedly spotted a suspect matching the description who was attempting to get into a room at the motel, and arrested Hoffstead. Police questioned a second person of interest who was in the room Hoffstead was allegedly trying to get into, but did not press charges against that individual.
Police recovered about $1,700, and say they are still investigating the situation and whether Hoffstead was staying at the motel.
