Police: Man Caught Attempting Cheesy Heist

The following arrest report was provided by the White Plains Police Department, it does not indicate a conviction.

A Manhattan man's plan to avoid paying for his fill of dairy products was foiled Saturday when he was caught by store security and arrested for petty larceny, police say.

Security at Shop Rite told police the man, 40, walked into the store at about 8:15 a.m. and began loading packages of Kraft cheese into his backpack. After placing 17 cheese packages in the bag, security said he walked out the door without paying.

The man was stopped near the exit door until police arrived.

According to the store, the total value of the cheese was $95.

The man was charged with misdemeanor petty larceny at police headquarters. He was held for arraignment.
