Police: Nyack Man Threatened to Stab Cop

Confrontation developed as Orangetown police officers were clearing sidewalk in front of Main Street bar at closing time.

A Nyack man has been charged with harassment and resisting arrest after a confrontation with Orangetown police at bar closing time in downtown Nyack.

Police said that as town officers were attempting to clear the sidewalk in front of 82 Main St., the Black Bear Saloon, at 4:08 a.m. Saturday, Claude Alex Mehu, 29, of 75 N. Broadway, became combative and verbally threatened to stab an Orangetown police officer.

Mehu, according to police, refused to comply with police officers and a brief struggle ensued, with Mehu and police officers falling to the ground. Police said no weapon was involved or was found.

Mehu was charged with harassment, a violation, and resisting arrest, a misdemeanor. He was later released on $200 bail pending a Nyack Village Court hearing on Oct. 9.

The large mega type bars should never have been permitted in Nyack. They draw too many people and problems. This along with the passive style of law enforcement in Nyack by the Orangetown police is problematic.. Officers should be walking Main St. showing a strong presence like the Nyack PD did back in the day.. not sitting around inside patrols cars ..

If you first read the comments by Lisa Snyder, you can hear her tone. She hates Nyack and just complains in filthy language how bad it is. She should move to someplace where she will be happy. Which is probaly nowhere. She does not do anything but complain and sit on her butt. Does she go to meetings and have her input into what goes on. I am sure she doesn't because she is the one who doesn't care. If you care you do something about it of move. Yes, John there are a lot of things wrong with Nyack but I believe you voice your opinions and work to make Nyack what it once was. I meant that for her personally.Things need to be fixed but nothing will change unless people make the effort to do it. At least the board is trying different things, they may not all work but if others give their input changes may be made. You can't go back and take away the overabundance of bars that are a major part of the problem. Find some other way. At least put in the effort.

@Stewie-plus the bars do not pay sales tax to Nyack or Orangetown. We do not benefit from so many bars in the village. And what John Whitley said...

My only question..why is this man's picture posted and not "others" who have done as much and worse...not defending his behavior just questioning why "his" face and not "others"?...
