White Plains Man Sentenced in Sweepstakes Scam

A White Plains man is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 8 after he allegedly pleaded guilty to bilking an 89-year-old woman out of more than several thousand dollars in Albany County.

Hope Labeach pleaded guilty to the charge of fourth-degree money laundering, a felony, in Albany County Court on Dec. 11. He faces a sentence of 1 to 3 years in state prison.

Police in Bethlehem, Albany County arrested Hopeton Labeach in July after he allegedly contacted the victim and told her that she had won money through Publishers Clearing House. Labeach told the woman that she needed to send him money orders to collect her prize.

The woman sent Labeach more than $7,900 worth of money orders, according to police.
