White Plains Mourns Loss of Deputy Fire Chief Keinz

Donald Keinz, a 34-year veteran of the White Plains Fire Department, passed away unexpectedly Thursday.

White Plains lost one of its bravest Thursday. The passing of , a 34-year department veteran, is a shock to the community, said White Plains Public Safety Commissioner David Chong. 

“He is a great loss to our department,” said Chong. “We will miss him greatly. I will miss him as a friend. It was always good to know what Donald was with me, side-by-side giving me advice and guidance.” 

Chong said Keinz was on hand for many of the city’s biggest disasters, like the and during the .

"You can never replace someone like Donald Keinz," said Chong. "Someone will step up to do his job, but Donald Keinz was a special person. We are every sad and heart broken at the for his tragic and unexpected loss."

The White Plains Professional Firefighters Local 274 has the funeral arrangements posted on its website, as follows:

Services will be held Sunday, July 1 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Monday, July 2 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Beecher Funeral Home, 418 Bedford Rd. in Pleasantville. A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in White Plains at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 3. The burial will take place at the Gates of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla.
