Carpenter: Post-Sandy Situation a 'Mess'

Town Supervisor, Mike Kaplowitz, blast Con Edison again.

Eleven days after Hurricane Sandy hit New Castle, patience is running thin.

In her daily status update video, Town Supervisor Susan Carpenter expressed more frustration with the slow pace of power restoration in town.

“I almost feel like I should be Robin Williams saying 'Good Morning Vietnam.' We're in about that kind of a mess here. It's November 8th and it's a mess.”

As of her video, Carpenter stated that 2,697 Con Edison customers remained without power.

Carpenter also touched on the fact that Con Edison shared a list of feeder locations with the town, which involve the power feeders being worked on. She explained that just because a road is not on the feeder list location, it does not mean that they are not working on a line to restore related power.

Carpenter, in the video, also suggested that people contact Con Edison corporate officials if they have complaints by going to conedison.com, which is the company's corporate website. She also encouraged people to contact the state's utilities regulatory body, the Public Services Commission (PSC).

“They [Con Edison] don't answer to us," Carpenter said in the video.

Also in the update video was County Legislator Mike Kaplowitz, who gave his remarks at Chappaqua's Prespections for Fitness, which lost power and operated on a generator.

Kaplowitz, at the time of his update, gave a figure of 2,805 New Castle customers out.

“That is not acceptable.”

In the video, Scott Reilly, the fitness center's owner, called the situation “just abhorrent."

The problem we have in New Castle is that our representatives have no clue regarding how to get ConEd to work on our priorities as a town. Instead, they grandstand from the sidelines with hollow threats that are ignored by ConEd.

We have no power. Con Ed had an assesor come by yesterday to see that we didn't have power after it's been reported numerous times? Our time gets moved back each day. So supposedly Sunday is going to be the day that everyone is back? Doubt it!

We have no power. I want ConEdison replaced at first occasion. We will always be less priority then NYC, Yonkers, White Plains etc.
