  • From Town of Mount Pleasant Supervisor Joan Maybury:

Con Ed has continued to assign crews to the Town of Mt. Pleasant for restoration. We have been told the Woodland/Foshay - Rte. 117 area is a priority and that crews will be working there today and for the next few days.We understand some power was restored to the Bear Ridge Road area butmany are still without service on Palmer Rd. and Eton. Quite honestly, the response from Con Ed has been extremely frustrating to track and they are incapable of letting us know clearly what their daily work orders will involve. We have been told to have Con Ed customers call daily to report outages. The shelter is open at Town Hall for everyone's use. If we get specific information, I will post it.

Wednesday, 10:50 p.m. Update

From Briarcliff Manor Union Free School District Superintendent Neal Miller:

Tonight's storm is making driving conditions on our roads very difficult and dangerous, and this storm is projected to continue for some time.  Therefore, we will have a two-hour delay for all of our schools tomorrow morning, Thursday, November 8th.  If conditions worsen, we will reassess the safety of the roads in the morning and communicate to you any changes as soon as possible. To repeat, we will have a two-hour delay in the opening of all of our schools tomorrow morning. Out-of-district transportation also will be on a two-hour delay. Thank you and be safe.

From Pleasantville Union Free School District Superintendent Mary Fox-Alter:

Tonight's fall storm has challenged all of us! I also know that there are parts of the school district that still do not have power. In order to allow all the right amount of planning time, I have decided to implement a 2 hour delay for tomorrow and to err on the side of allowing for evening planning given the recent unique circumstances. Hopefully that will give everyone involved the time to open schools safely. I apprecaite your understanding and patience. I hope tomorrow is a safe day for all.

  • From Pleasantville Mayor Peter Scherer:

No better news within the official boundaries of the Village of Pleasantville...but there is some positive news for our friends, neighbors and Pville school families in the Locust area of Mount Pleasant., just outside the Village. Utility crews are there now.

Lots of those folks have suffered with outages that have left them without well pumps.

Wednesday, 12:25 p.m. Update

  • From Pleasantville Mayor Peter Scherer:

Wish I had better news to report...just got off our daily calls with Con Ed and the County.

As of this AM, no crews are assigned to an Pleasantville outages, and they are not able to tell us whether we will see any crews tomorrow. That could change hour by hour, but that's the story right now. We're chasing every utility resource we can find.

We have somewhere between 100 and 200 homes still dark. Despite extraordinary efforts to demand info and resources, we have no information to offer this AM to Pville residents remaining without power. We have another call at 2 pm.

Based on the conference calls, many communities like Pville report the same. Sadly, both New Castle and Briarcliff have a far higher percentage of homes still dark, and there at least one nursing home still out 10 days in.

When this is all over, there will be a whole lot of yelling about how utilities planned and responded. We'll be at that table.

  • From Briarcliff Manor UFSD Superintendent Neal Miller:

Dear Parents,

We are glad to have our students back in school these past two days, and I am pleased to say that attendance has been very good.  We know that many of our families still do not have power and some have been displaced from their homes.  Please know that we understand the difficulties some of our families are experiencing.    We want you to know that students will not be penalized for coming in late due to these circumstances.

We want everyone to continue to use caution and care in getting to bus stops and to school, knowing that teachers and administrators understand the difficulty in doing so.

In closing, I wish everyone well in getting their lives back to normal as soon as possible.

ConEd posted on their website that restoration time for all WC is 11/9!
Sarah Studley November 02, 2012 at 05:26 PM
Thanks for the update! That sounds a little better than yesterday's estimated Nov. 10-11 timeframe: http://patch.com/A-zlB1
Chris November 06, 2012 at 06:00 PM
Have you heard anything about when the traffic lights will be fixed at the junction of 9A and Rte 117 - so many near miss accidents there, I am hoping it will be fixed soon. Thanks again for the updates, it is appreciated
Sarah Studley November 06, 2012 at 06:53 PM
Hi Chris, unfortunately no specifics on that area yet. I did see some trucks there yesterday, though. I did drive by this afternoon though and saw it's still out. Will keep you posted.
Chris November 09, 2012 at 04:46 PM
Power may have been restored to Pace P'ville campus, but the traffic light at Pace entrance three and the homes across the street ARE STILL WITHOUT POWER. The above update is misleading - any new updates will be appreciated. Thanks.
