Saxon Woods Pool Opens

Westchester County recently announced hours of operations for its pools, including Saxon Woods Park Pool open seven days a week from June 22 to Aug. 19, from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. (no admittance after 6 p.m.). A park pass or proof of county residency is required for entry; fees are $6 for adults, $4 for children under 12, and $4 for seniors (on weekdays only).

Middle School Students Honored by American Association of Teachers of French

White Plains Middle School students were among the top 10 ranking students in Westchester to take the American Association of Teachers of French’s National French Test, Le Grand Concours. 

The students are:

Seventh graders:

  • Leah Billig - 7th  ranking

Eighth graders:

  • Sarah Samaranayake – 5th ranking
  • Jared Roseman – 6th ranking
  • Janine Fernandez – 7th ranking
  • Charlotte Mead – 7th ranking
  • Jaimie Fernandez – 8th ranking
  • Annick Tabb – 8th ranking
  • Josephine Mercado – 9th ranking
  • Olivia Bratkovics – 10th ranking

The students’ teachers are Susan Pietsch and Amy von Sauer.

Tesla Motors Opens in White Plains

Tesla Motors, a manufacturer of electric vehicles (EVs), will open its new showroom to the public on Friday, May 25 at The Westchester. They also have job openings here. Click for our story on EVs and future electric vehicle infrastructure in White Plains.

Commissioners Get Raises, Mayor’s Office and Common Council Don’t

According to the White Plains CitizeNetReporter, the Mayor’s Office and White Plains Common Council will not be getting raises in 2012-13, though the City’s commissioners will. Check out White Plains CitizeNetReporter’s list of commissioners and their salaries here.
