The storm recovery center that has offered assistance to nearly 900 people in the weeks after Superstorm Sandy will close Friday evening at 6 p.m.
Located in the Westchester County Center in White Plains, the recovery center has offered storm victims face-to-face interaction and information since it opened on Nov. 8. Officials from Consolidated Edison, FEMA and social service organizations setup booths at the center as part of an effort to inform people during the storm's aftermath.
FEMA made the announcement in a statement Monday evening.
"The state and the Federal Emergency Management Agency closely monitor visitor traffic at all New York Disaster Recovery Centers," read the statement. "When traffic slows, a center may change its hours to reflect the fact that most information needs of storm survivors in the area are being met."
Those still in need of assistance can follow these directions to find the nearest center:

FEMA is offering assistance that includes money for rent, home repairs and replacement for personal property losses acrued during the storm.
- Individuals can register for help online or via smartphone or tablet. They may also call 800-621-3362 or (TTY) 800-462-7585. People who use 711-Relay or Video Relay Services (VRS) can call 800-621-3362. The toll-free telephone numbers remain available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
