White Plains city Common Council member Benjamin Boykin has his eyes set on higher office.
Boykin, a council member since 2000 and a former White Plains school board members, says he is running for the Westchester County Board of Legislators, looking to take the seat that represents most of White Plains, Scarsdale and Harrison.
Boykin told White Plains Democrats about his plans for District 5 on Thursday. The seat is held by Bill Ryan, who is running for Westchester County Executive. Boykin was re-elected in 2011 to his Common Council seat.
Ryan has said he is supporting Boykin's run for his Board of Legislators seat.
Here's what Boykin has to say about his decision to rule for the county post:
“I will work to bring more transparency to the county’s budget process and implement budgets that protect the most vulnerable among us, provide safety and security for our citizens, provide opportunities for economic development and job creation, and protect our environment.”
Boykin is a certified public accountant and president of Ben Boykin and Associates.
