George Washington Seeks Volunteers to Build New Playground

A message from George Washington Elementary School:

Dear GW Families and Friends:

Mark your calendars now for the weekends of August 10/11 and August 24/25! We are so excited to be just a few short weeks away from the installation of new playgrounds at GW Elementary!

Our GW student and many other White Plains children who need a safe and vibrant place to exercise their bodies and their imaginations will delight in these new playgrounds for years to come.

In order to replace both play structures at GW, within the constraints of the budget, GW committed to doing a Community Build.  The new playground at Ridgeway was put in this same way, under the supervision of the company that sells the play equipment.  New play equipment for the pre-K program that operates at Rochambeau was recently put up in similar fashion.

Amazing volunteers from our community coming together to do something that benefits both their own children and our community at large.
Please sign up NOW to volunteer for one or more of these community build days.

If you cannot commit to the entire day, please indicate what hours you can volunteer. Please also provide contact information (email and cell phone, preferably), so we can contact you as needed.
Here some pertinent details:
* The start time is 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM on Saturday and 8:30AM – Finish.  RAIN OR SHINE!

* Volunteers must be 16 or older. (If you have any ideas for recruiting additional volunteers, please let me know!)
* We are actually building and putting sections of the structure together. We will be supervised by 3 representatives from the equipment company. They do these type of builds every weekend and have a lot of experience, so we are in good hands.
* Please bring tools, if you have them.  Useful tools are listed below. More tools will make work faster. Please label your tools so you get them back.
 * We will provide water, light snacks and lunch.  Don't forget your sunscreen, hat, etc.
 * The structure should be complete by late Sunday afternoon and ready to be checked by the engineer on Monday.  Cement will be poured and the surfacing put in place after that.  It will not be play-ready until later that week, at the earliest.  But our job will be complete by late Sunday.
 * If you have a neighbor, friend or family member that can help, please bring them along. Many hands make lighter and FASTER work.
