White Plains Scholar-Athletes Recognized Monday

More than 140 White Plains High School athletes named Scholar Athletes by the state High School Athletic Association were honored during Monday’s school board meeting.

Students from seven fall varsity teams were presented with certificates and pins  by High School Principal Ellen Doherty and Athletic Director Jennifer DeSena during a ceremony held at the district’s administrative office building on Homeside Lane. A total of 142 students were acknowledged.

The status is awarded to teams whose members record a grade average of 90 or higher.

Teams represented were Boys’ Cross Country, coached by Fred Singleton; Girls’ Cross Country, coached by Carlos Agudelo; Field Hockey, coached by Joan Behrends; Girls’ Soccer, Laura Owen and Mike Rivera, Coaches; Girls’ Swimming and Diving, Patricia Gilmartin, Coach, Girls’ Tennis, coached by Sue Adams; and Girls’ Volleyball, Caitlyn MacDonald, Coach.


Both the Field Hockey and Girls’ Tennis teams had 100% participation in the honors.
