White Plains Schools Extend Business Chief; Continue to Fill Vacancies for Coming Year

Fred Seiler, assistant superintendent of business for White Plains Schools, had his contract extended for two more years during Monday's school board meeting. The board also appointed Mark Russo as high school house administrator.

White Plains school officials went a long way toward stabilizing the district’s administrative staff Monday by extending the contract its assistant superintendent for business and appointing a new high school house administrator Monday.

Fred Seiler, the assistant superintendent for business, had his contract extended two more years to June 30, 2016. The last year of Seiler's current contract June 30, 2014.

“We are lucky to have people who are very effective at their jobs,” said Timothy Connors, interim superintendent of White Plains schools. “Sometimes people retired or move on, but it’s nice when you can retain someone like Fred who is respected by the community.”

Seiler came to White Plains school seven years ago after serving as the assistantce superintendent of schools for Spencerport schools in Monroe County, NY.

Seiler said his salary is currently $228,500 and he expects to increase by 1 percent once the extension goes into effect.

“I think we all realize it’s tough time financially, so there were no changes to the contract,” Seiler said.

Board Appoints Russo as High School House Administrator

The school board also appointed Mark Russo, who worked as a social studies teacher in the high school, to the position of house administrator at the high school and Greg Gorman as the district-wide math coordinator.

Russo will replace John Orcutt, who was appointed as assistant principal of the high school. Orcutt replaces Ernest Spatafore, who is now the principal of the middle school.

“Mark Russo has served as a social studies teacher at the high school for 13 years and he’s going to make a wonderful administrator,” Connors said.

Gorman replaces Lisa Weber, who left the district  to become assistant superintendent of instruction for the Ramapo school district.
