Heineken Workers Volunteer at Bronx Garden

As part of HEINEKEN USA’s Day of Giving, employee volunteers from the company’s offices in White Plains and New York City will convene to beautify the garden by creating a new landscaped entrance, build raised planting beds and picnic tables, paint, and weed and mulch the garden walkways at La Finca del Sur.  Since establishing HEINEKEN USA’s “Day of Giving” program in 2007, more than 7,000 volunteer hours have helped communities and green spaces in the New York City and White Plains regions.

La Finca del Sur is a New York City GreenThumb garden.  In addition to hosting community events throughout the year, the two-acre garden produces vegetables and herbs, and provides a home to a seasonal farmer’s market for a community that lacks access to fresh produce. GrowNYC has spearheaded various environmental initiatives in New York, including the Open Space Greening program, which has built more than 70 gardens and green spaces. Additionally, GrowNYC has partnered with GreenThumb, the NYC Parks Departments community gardening program, and has committed to build six new Gardens for Healthy Communities in 2013, which are part of the Mayor’s Obesity Task Force.
