Letters of Support to Deployed Soldiers

2012 9/11 Week of Service and Remembrance

Since 2009, Books to Soldiers has been collecting hardcover and paperback books from schools, libraries and religious organizations for deployed soldiers and veterans. Started by Jamie Stein, this program has collected 12,000 books annually to be distributed to military bases such as Fort Dix, Fort Drum, the Veterans Administration Hospital and the New York State Veterans Home.

For the week of service volunteers will be assisting with her efforts by writing notes and creating cards to be slipped into the books. This is a family-friendly volunteer opportunity and volunteers of all ages can participate. Volunteers will also assist with other projects including adding in book plates in the inside cover of books when required.

There are two shifts available for volunteers:

  • Session 3 (4:30PM to 5:30PM), Kensico Dam Plaza - Valhalla
  • Session 4 (5:30PM to 6:30PM), Kensico Dam Plaza - Valhalla
