[VIDEO] Westchester Triathlon Raises More Than $500,000 For Charity

Organizers say efforts of volunteers, weather combine for near-perfect race event.

More than $500,000 was raised for charity over the weekend in the two-days of the Westchester Triathlon, which culminated Sunday with runners crossing the finish line to the cheers of friends and family members at Rye Town Park.

Jordan Jones of Golden, Colo., was the overall winner of the triathlon, taking a second-consecutive win.

Phil Gormley of Rye, chairman of the Westchester Triathlon Committee, described the weekend as "perfect," especially with beautiful, cool weather on the first full day of fall working to benefit race participants.

Gormley said the event, which attracted participants from throughout the Lower Hudson Valley area and across the country, raised in excess of $500,000 to support several charities, including the Rye YMCA, MAC Angels, the Wounded Warrior Project, the Blazeman Foundation for ALS, the Challenged Athletes Foundation .

The triathlon started Sunday morning with a swim at Rye Beach, with participants then biking through streets in the Rye area and then running through Rye on a course that ended at Rye Town Park. On Saturday, children participated in events specially-designed for them.
