Veterans Day Ceremony Today in White Plains; Anti-Bullying Forums Planned this Week

TODAY: The City of White Plains is holding its annual Veterans Day Ceremony today at the Soldier’s and Sailor’s Monument in the White Plains Rural Cemetery, located at 167 North Broadway. The ceremony will begin at 10:30 am. The event, organized by the Mayor’s Veteran’s Committee, will feature recollections and insights by keynote speaker USMC Staff Sergeant Jason Freeland, in addition to various other speakers. WWII Veteran, Ross Marsico, will be honored this year.

TODAY: There will be free parking for veterans on the lots of the Westchester County Center, located at 198 Central Ave. in White Plains, all day in honor of Veteran’s Day.

TUESDAY: The White Plains Library is hosting the “Job Club” Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. Career counselors Ginny Ruder and Rose Macom will lead the ongoing weekly job club, with discussions on topics such as resume writing, preparing for an interview, using the Internet to conduct a job search and tips on developing a strong professional network. Each session will include time to ask questions and share ideas. The White Plains Library is located at 100 Martine Ave.

TUESDAY: The YWCA White Plains & Central Westchester is hosting “Perspectives on Money and Career for Young Women,” a forum designed to give young women a better perspective on personal finance and help them develop career plans that will help them become financially independent. The workshop takes place at 6 p.m. inside the YWCA, located at 515 North St. in White Plains. Learn more about the forum here.

TUESDAY: Westchester Jewish Community Services is hosting “Parenting in the Digital Age: Fostering Communication and Connection,” a workshop designed to provide strategies and tools to have an effective conversation with your child about making healthy choices in cyberspace. The keynote speaker is Sharon Charles, LCSW, Margaret's Place Coordinator at Pelham Middle School. The event takes places at Margaret's Place is a partnership of WJCS and The Joe Torre Safe At Home Foundation. The event takes place begins 7:30 p.m. at JCC on the Hudson, located 371 South Broadway in Tarrytown.

WEDNESDAY: The Digital Arts Experience and Westchester Mommy are hosting a special panel discussion for parents on ways to prevent their child from being bullied and cyberbullied. The panel will take place from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Digital Arts Experience, located at 170 Hamilton Ave., Suite 100, in White Plains. RSVP to info@WestchesterMommy.com

THURSDAY: The Brazen Fox Restaurant & Bar, located at 175 Mamaroneck Ave. in White Plains, is hosting a benefit dinner for Hospice & Palliative Care of Westchester (HPCW). A three-course, prix fixe dinner, including a complimentary glass of beer or wine, is being offered at $30 per person. A portion of the proceeds will benefit HPCW. Reservations are required.
