White Plains Schools Open Monday; 9/11 Events Scheduled Wednesday

  • TODAY: It's day the many parents look forward and many children look to with feelings of nervousness, dread and excitement—today is the first day of school for White Plains schools. Make sure to drive carefully!
  • TODAY: The White Plains Design and Review Board is scheduled to meet tonight at 7 p.m. Agenda items include and informal review of the site plan for White Plains Hospital's capital project .
  • TODAY: The White Plains school board has a regularly scheduled meeting tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the  Education House, located at 5 Homeside Ln. 
  • WEDNESDAY: White Plains is holding a Sept. 11 Honor Service 8 a.m. Wednesday at Liberty Park in White Plains.
  • WEDNESDAY: Westchester County will commemorate the 12th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001 7 p.m. Wednesday at The Rising, the county’s 9/11 memorial at the Kensico Dam in Valhalla. County Executive Robert P. Astorino, other elected officials and families of Westchester residents who died in the World Trade Center are expected to attend.  A highlight of this year’s ceremony will be the dedication of a Ground Zero beam, which will be permanently placed at The Rising.
  • THURSDAY: The Digital Arts Experience is hosting a  fall open house Thursday, from  6 p.m. to 9p.m. Explore the creative after-school possibilities for your child!  Classes meet once a week for 8 weeks, starting Sept. 16. The Digital Arts Experience, 170 Hamilton Ave, Suite 100,  in White Plains.
  • FRIDAY: ArtsWestchester is exhibiting "A Horse, Of Course" from Friday, Sept. 13 to Saturday, Oct. 12. The exhibit will showcase contemporary interpretations of equestrian art, from regal thoroughbreds to whimsical carousel horses, across various media –sculpture, painting, photography, and drawing.
