The following announcement was submitted by the City of White Plains.

The White Plains Youth Bureau and the White Plains Cares Coalition will host a Book Fair at the City Center Barnes & Noble this Saturday, 10 a.m. to  6 p.m.

Barnes & Noble is located in the City Center Shopping Center at 230 Main St. in White Plains.

At no extra cost to shoppers, Barnes & Noble will donate 15 percent of sales to the Youth Bureau’s “White Plains Reads” program when customers use the Book Fair ID Number: 11161338 at checkout.

“It is a great day to do some holiday shopping and support this worthwhile program at the same time,” said Mayor Roach. “I encourage everyone to come over to City Center and take part.”

The “White Plains Reads” program supports a community-wide initiative to promote reading and reading skills development for elementary school youth. The program partners with PACE

University and the White Plains Library to train teen volunteers to be literary coaches. The coaches provide free literacy tutoring in schools throughout White Plains.

The Fair will also feature a variety of fun family activities hosted by the Youth Bureau and the White Plains Cares Coalition, including: an arts and crafts station, hourly story time, musical performances and more. Volunteers will be on hand to provide free gift wrapping to all shoppers.
