Description: oin The Wizard of Oz's 75th anniversary event hosted by the Simon Kidgits Club at The Westchester on Sept. 21, from noon to to 2 p.m. At the celebration, families can take part in a variety of imaginative The Wizard of Oz inspired activities to revel in the charming tradition of the Yellow Brick Road. Attendees will receive a map leading to various stations throughout the event that will feature exciting viewings of sections from The Wizard of Oz film. In addition, other offerings include interactive craft-making, exciting coloring activities, cut-out character photo opportunities and exclusive movie-focused giveaways. Attendees are encouraged to arrive at the event in their favorite character costume.

White Plains: Dharma & Yoga Festival

White Plains: The Harrison Players Present "50 Years, and We're Still Here: The Harrison Players' Follies"

Description:The Harrison Players, Inc. was founded in 1963 as a non-profit group, and has produced many shows including many big musicals, dramas and comedies such as “Fiddler,” “The Music Man,” and “Plaza Suite,” as well as mysteries, children’s shows and musical revues. To celebrate their anniversary year, The Harrison Players is presenting an evening of entertainment at Stepinac High School in White Plains, NY on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at 8:00 pm. It will feature more than 40 past and present members singing and dancing selections from shows throughout the group’s history.

White Plains: Container Gardening Workshop

Description: Friends of the Eastchester Public Library (EPL) will host the EPL Library Fair in the library parking lot. All proceeds will benefit a major renovation that will bring a more lively and modern children's room to EPL. New carpeting and a 3D book-themed circulation area populated by children's book characters such as Greg from the Wimpy Kid series and Winnie the Pooh will be installed this fall.

Elmsford: Farewell to Summer

Description: There’s a ton going on today to celebrate Ossining’s waterfront from booths, food, to of course boats. The Shattemuc Yacht Club will be hosting a "Plein Air" for artists, starting at 9am to 3pm, viewing at 3pm to 5pm, auction of the art work at 5pm to 7pm. The Clearwater vessel will be at the Village Pier for the day. The Ossining Boat and Canoe Club will be running a youth fishing program and seineing at the PAL Beach. Shattemuc sailors will be providing free sailing trips from 12pm to 3pm, for the first 15 people in line. Live music at Harbor Square kicks off at 11:30am and continues throughout the day with an eclectic array of musical genres from classic rock, pop, and instrumental jazz to urban folk, new age, and sci-fi rock & pop. Description: A group against Common Core Standards in New York State is holding a forum on Sept. 21. The STOP group believes that Common Core Standards adopted by states nation-wide promotes a “one-size-fits-all” approach that neglects special education and gifted students. The forum is being held at the Renaissance Westchester Hotel in West Harrison from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and will include a panel of education experts from a wide spectrum of groups across the nation. They include Jamie Gass, director of the Center for School Reform at the Pioneer Institute, Neal McCluskey, associate director of the Cato Center for Educational Freedom, Emmett McGroarty, executive director of the Preserve Innocence Initiative at the American Principles Project, Sheila Kaplan, founder of EducationalNewYork.com and Christopher Tienken, assistant professor, Seton Hall University.

Yorktown: Fieldhome’s 9th Annual Fall Festival

Description: The Fall Festival was founded as a way to give back to the community. Attendees are asked to bring canned and dried foods, which will benefit Yorktown Community Help. Some of the events planned include arts and crafts, a car show, pumpkin patch, homemade bake sale, fall plants sale, food and live entertainment, as well as a Kid’s Zone that will include a petting zoo, face and pumpkin painting, bouncy houses and games and prizes.
