St. Thomas Orchestra Holds Fall Concert, Special Needs Fair at the Post Rd. School, Scott Katsura Performs at St. Bart's Church

  • The Twig Holiday Fair has been running under one name or another for nearly 100 years. This year’s event will be held at Apawamis Club in Rye from 12 to 6 p.m. Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16. The club’s address is 2 Club Road. The venerable annual fair benefits Port Chester-Rye-Rye Brook and Harrison Emergency Medical Services
  • The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society will host a fun-filled party complete with music, dancing, food and open bar 8p.m.  Friday at Vintage Lounge & Bar Restaurant in White Plains for the 10th Anniversary of "Party for A Cure".  This year, live music will be provided by The Bookends. Tickets are $100.00 per person.  Ticket price includes Open Bar, Appetizers, and Entertainment. Evening also includes fabulous Silent Auction prizes and Raffle. Vintage is located at 171 Main St. in White Plains.
  • Pelham Chess is hosting its inaugural chess tournament Saturday at the Pelham Middle School, 28 Franklin Place in Pelham. Checks should be made payable to the  Pelham PTA MS. On–site registration is $50 and is open from 9:15 a.m. to 9:40 a.m. Nonmembers of the United States Chess Federation should pay an addition $17.  Direct all questions regarding the tournament to: pelhamchess@gmail.com.
  • Transatlantic Foods invites the public to sample its line of charcuterie and fresh sausage products Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Whole Foods Market of White Plains, located at 110 Bloomingdale Rd.  Some of Transatlantic’s dried sausages include fennel, sopressata, and chorizo. Their fresh sausages include chicken apple with maple honey, breakfast sage and sweet Italian.
  • The Post Road School in White Plains, located 175 W. Post Rd., is hosting a special needs resource fair Saturday at 11 a.m. Come out and learn about some of the special needs resources available to families in a relaxed, free, easy to navigate forum. There will be a wide range of vendors including therapists, recreational specialists, advocates, social groups, educators and more. Open to all and free.  
  • St. Bartholomew's Church, located at 82 Prospect Street in White Plains, is hosting a Holiday Benefit Concert at St. Bartholomew's Church, featuring international pop recording artist  Scott Katsura with opening performances by Mark Douglas; dancing by Najee, a guitarist Scott Zotollo; and background singing by Nikki Arrowsmith. There will also be a special appearance by Father Gawain and the People of St. Barts. Tickets are $25 and automatically enter you into a raffle.
  • Soprano Jennifer Foster joins the St. Thomas Orchestra Saturday at 8 p.m. for Mahler's emotional Symphony No. 4. Under the baton of STO Music Director Bernard Tamosaitis, the program also features Wagner's "A Siegfried Idyll," with a festive buffet reception to follow. The event takes place at White Plains High School. Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for students, and  $45 for families.
  • Bet Am Shalom Synagogue, located at 295 Soundview Ave. in White Plains, is holding its 20th Annual Judaica Craft Show Saturday, 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. This juried show features an array of Judaic crafts and jewelry, with hundreds of unique works from the U.S., Canada, and Israel. Items in all price ranges include works in ceramic, silver, fabric, and more, for ritual, decorative, and practical use in the home and synagogue.  Admission is $8 per person, with Sunday re-entry free if paid Saturday night); and $7 with online voucher.  For more information and directions, call 914-946-8851 or visit betamshalom.org for a discount voucher.
  • The White Plains Library is hosting “How the Beaver Got Sharp Teeth and Other Native Tales with Luann” Sunday at 2 p.m. Performer LuAnn Adams uses puppets, visuals, music and lots of audience participation to bring Native American folktales and stories to life. The stories will highlight the wisdom, laughter and life lessons that the people who lived in our great country long before us wove into their teachings about respecting life and the world that all creatures share. The White Plains Library is located at 100 Martine Ave.
