The 39 Step Opens in White Plains; Westchester County Historical Society Hosts Tags Sale; and Footsteps for Families Scheduled at Maria Fareri

  • Hope’s Door is hosting a fall luncheon Friday in conjunction with spotlighting “National Domestic Violence Awareness month” at the Renaissance Westchester Hotel, located at 80 West Red Oak Lane in West Harrison. This year’s theme is  Broadway Matinee and the event will feature Tony-nominated and Emmy Award-winning Actress Liz Calloway, conductor and musical director Susan Anderson, and family attorney and advocate Alayne Katz as speakers. There will aslo be an silent auction for a number of items, including ticket to see the Broadway shows Cinderella, Newsies, and Mamma Mia. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. General admission tickets starts at $150.

  • The White Plains Performing Arts Center is showing of the play THE 39 STEPS from Friday, Oct. 11, to Sunday, Oct. 27. The play adapted , by Patrick Barlow from the novel by John Buchan, is based on the movie of Alfred Hitchcock with an original concept by Nobby Dimon and Simon Corble.  Tickets cost $25 for students in high school and younger and $37.50 for adults.   • The Highlands Middle School in White Plains is hosting MVP Columbus Day Weekend Basketball Clinics Saturday through Monday. Boys and girls ages 9 - 17 can enjoy three separate clinic sessions this Columbus Day weekend culminating with a 3-on-3 tournament for all participants on Monday afternoon. Clinic sessions are 9 a.m. to noon. Each session has a different focus so children can participate in any one session or all three. On Columbus Day kids can stay right through until 4PM to play in the tournament. They have a choice of creating a team of 3 or 4 with their friends or being assigned a team in one of the five different age groups. Pizza will be served between noon and 1 p.m. Monday while the brackets are being finalized. The cost is $50 per clinic or $125 for all three clinics. Find more info here.

  • The Westchester County Historical Society is hosting its 20th annual “Giant Tag Sale” Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The sale will feature loads of  gently used furniture, books, prints, ephemera (including old Westchester maps), artwork, household items, bric-a-brac, jewelry (costume and precious), antiques, linens, toys and games, sporting goods and much. The sale will take place at the Westchester County Archives and Records Center, located at 2199 Saw Mill River Road (Route 9A) in Elmsford, NY. All proceeds from the sale will benefit the Westchester County Historical Society, one of the oldest historical societies in America.  

    • On Sunday, Grand Marshall Joshua Lopez and his mother, Shannon – along with their team family members and friends – will walk to raise money for Ronald McDonald House of the Greater Hudson Valley at the 3rd Annual Footsteps for Families. This a family-friendly walk will take place on the grounds of Maria Fareri Children's Hospital at Westchester Medical Center - 100 Woods Road, Valhalla, NY 10595. Registration and refreshments take place from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. The approximately two mile walk begins at 10 a.m. The will be family-fun activities until noon. The pre-registration fee is $10, but will increase to $15 the day of the event. Children 12 and younger are free. No pets allowed. Walk-ins are welcome and the event will take place rain or shine.
