White Plains: Trove @ The Movies: Frankenweenie

Description: On Friday, the White Plains Library will present Frankenweenie, an animated comedy from Walt Disney pictures. Young Victor conducts a science experiment to bring his beloved dog Sparky back to life, only to face unintended, sometimes monstrous, consequences. Rated PG (thematic elements, scary image and action), 87 mins.

White Plains: BARE: A Pop Opera

Where: White Plains Performing Arts Center, 11 City Place in White Plains.

When: Friday, July 26 - Sunday, July 28

Cost: Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for students ages 22 and younger. 

Description:White Plains Performing Arts Center and Harrison Summer Theatre presents BARE: A Pop Opera. The musical is about the coming-of-age story of five high school seniors at a Catholic boarding school. Knowing their stay in this insular world is drawing to a close, each of them question where they are in their lives and what the future holds in store. Answers are sought in the church confessional and in less formal venues including a stage, a rave, and a well-locked dorm room. The story zooms in on the love relationship between two boys, Peter and Jason. Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for students ages 22 and younger. White Plains: Extreme Hooping Hula Hoop Lesson and Contest

Where: Saxon Woods Pool, 1800 Mamaroneck Ave.

When 2 p.m. July 27

Cost: The daily rate for a county resident who doesn’t hold a park pass is $15. 

Description: Westchester County promises you will learn the art of extreme hooping! Register for the contest at the pool office when you arrive. Winners will receive their own weighted hula hoop.

White Plains: Havdalah Under the Stars

Where: Community Unitarian Church, 468 Rosedale Ave. in White Plains.

When 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 27

Cost: Free

Description: Join the Westchester Community for Humanistic Judaism for a Havdalah service led by our rabbi, Frank Tamburello, followed by light refreshments.  This is also an opportunity for you to find out more about Humanistic Judaism (is it really an oxymoron?)The address is 468 Rosedale Avenue.  Weather permitting, the service will take place on the patio (hence, "under the stars").  For more info, please visit www.wchj.org.

Valhalla: Westchester Jewish Music & Arts Festival

Where:  Kensico Dam Plaza, Bronx River Parkway, Valhalla, NY 

When noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 28

Cost: Free

Description: Experience Jewish culture at the Kensico Dam Plaza Sunday.The festival will be held rain or shine. Seating is informal so bring blankets or folding chairs for seating on the lawn.

White Plains: 25th Anniversary Benefit Concert with Uncle Gerry

Where: Community Unitarian Church, 468 Rosedale Ave. in White Plains.

When 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 28

Cost: $10 for single admission, $25 for family admission with an advanced purchase made at musicalongsound.com/store.aspx

Description:Benefit concert for families with children, from birth through 95.  We'll celebrate the 25th anniversary of Music Together, which brings quality music to families.  Uncle Gerry, our headliner and a featured performer on Music Together's award winning CD's, will lead us with warmth and personality.  We'll sing, play, and dance along to multicultural favorites.  We'll sit on chairs or blankets, in a carpeted sanctuary, with sliding doors open to the beautiful gardens all around us.  The concert is presented by Music Along the Sound and its director, Jean Young. Profits from the concert will be divided between the March of Dimes and the Lustgarten Foundation's research for a cure for pancreatic cancer.

New Rochelle:You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown

Where: The College of New Rochelle's Romita Auditorium, 29 Castle Pl., New Rochelle

When: 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 27 and Sunday, July 27-28

Cost: $10 General admission

Description: CNR Drama at The College of New Rochelle will present You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, based on the comic strip “Peanuts” by Charles M. Schulz, Saturday and Sunday, July 27-28 on the main campus of The College of New Rochelle. The performances will be at 2 p.m. each day in the Romita Auditorium, 29 Castle Pl. Ticket price is $10 general admission. There will also be performances August 3-4.

Ossining: Summerfest

Where: In the historical downtown of Ossining at Main Street and Spring.

When: Saturday, July 27 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. (raindate Sunday, July 28)

Cost: Free

Description: Ossining SummerFest, which is in its fourth year, features live performances, ride tickets, entertainment, music, dozens of vendors selling drinks, snacks, summer merchandise and crafts. The Children’s Zone includes inflatable rides, games, foods and more.

New to the Ossining SummerFest this year is a sit down dinner/full service area where families can enjoy a tasty meal from local Ossining eateries. 

Peekskill: Peekskill Jazz & Blues Festival

Where: South and Division streets

When: July 26, 27

Cost: free

Description: The music starts at 8 p.m. Friday and picks back up at noon on Saturday. This is the seventh annual, and it just keeps getting better every year. 

Southeast: Swamp Gumbo on the lawn

Where: Arts on the Lake, Lake Carmel Arts Center, 640 Route 52. Indoors if rain. 

When: 7 p.m. July 26

Cost: Donations accepted at the entrance

Description:  The locally-grown and NYC-bred Cajun rock band Swamp Gumbo will close the Summer Concert Series.

Tarrytown: Barrymore Play opens at Lyndhurst

Where: Lyndhurst Estate, 635 South Broadway (Route 9), Tarrytown

When: From Saturday, July 27 through Sunday, August 11. Curtain times are 7:00 PM on Saturdays and 3:00 PM on Sundays.

Cost: Tickets are $35 for all seats, general admission and can be purchased through www.showclix.com/event/barrymoreplay.

Description: M&M will stage the play Barrymore by William Luce in the Lyndhurst Carriage House this summer. The internationally acclaimed play is about John Barrymore, the “Black Sheep” of America's most illustrious acting family. Come and picnic on the beautiful grounds of Lyndhurst, a National Trust Historic Site, before heading to the Carriage House for performances. Tarrytown: Seussical the Musical

 Description: Come enjoy a great show based on the stories of Dr. Seuss by the Summercliff Players. There is fun music and dancing which will entertain people of all ages.

Yorktown: Big the Musical

Where: Yorktown Stage, 1974 Commerce Street, Yorktown Heights

When: 7:30 p.m. July 27, 1 p.m. July 28

Description: This is the Westchester premiere of the adaptation of the beloved 1988 movie starring Tom Hanks.  Rewritten for the road in 1998, it was and has continued to be a big hit.
