Town Hall Meeting Calls for Albany to Raise the Age of Criminal Responsibility
(White Plains, NY – October 22, 2013) The Westchester Children’s Association (WCA) has joined a broad group of leading children’s advocates, faith and civil rights leaders, unions and law enforcement officials who are calling on Albany to Raise the Age of criminal responsibility. New York is the only state other than North Carolina where all children 16 and older are treated as adults in the criminal justice system. On Wednesday, October 30, WCA, with funding from The Tow Foundation, will host a Town Hall event to raise awareness and discuss the growing movement to raise the age of criminal responsibility. New York State Senators Ruth Hassell-Thompson (D-WF) 36th District, and Andrea Stewart Cousins (D-IP-WF) 35th District, will join WCA to respond and answer questions at the event, which is free and open to the public.
