Westchester Woman Hit by Truck Has Died

Sleepy Hollow Police Chief reports this morning's tragic incident when a truck struck an 81-year-old woman at Phelps Memorial Hospital is under investigation.

Update, Wednesday, 3:15 p.m.: The 81-year-old woman from Croton hit by a truck Wednesday morning in the Phelps Memorial Hospital lot in Sleepy Hollow was pronounced dead this afternoon.

The Westchester County Medical Examiner has been notified, Sleepy Hollow Police Chief Camp reports, and is conducting their investigation. The name of the accident victim is not being released at this time.

She was pronounced dead at 12:59 p.m. after sustaining what was described as serious trauma to her legs and a head injury when she was struck by an employee pickup truck rigged with a plow and sander.

Camp reports no charges have been filed, no summons issued. The police investigation is ongoing.

On Wednesday March 20, 2013 at about 8:54 am the Sleepy Hollow Police Department received a call reporting a pedestrian struck by a truck at Phelps Memorial Hospital Center, between the 755 Building and the Parking Garage. Officers responded and the Sleepy Hollow Ambulance was dispatched and responded.

The pedestrian appears to have been struck by a pickup truck, equipped with plow and sander. The vehicle, registered to Phelps Hospital, was being operated by one of their employees.

The pedestrian, an 81 year old female, received trauma to the lower extremities as well as a head injury. She was transported by ambulance to the emergency room.

An investigation is being conducted by the Sleepy Hollow Police Department, with assistance of the Westchester County Department of Public Safety Accident Investigation Unit.

No further information is available for release at this time.
