The second annual Lyme Research
Alliance Lyme (LRA) Community Informational Evening and reception to be held at
Mercedes-Benz of White Plains on Wednesday evening, September 25th and entitled What You Need To Know About Lyme Disease. The evening will equip Westchester residents with the knowledge and
tools to fight back against the silent epidemic of tick-borne disease, a
potentially devastating, but mostly preventable family of diseases, through
understanding the basics of prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
The format will be a cocktail
reception hosted by Mercedes-Benz, followed by a 30-minute briefing by two
experts on Lyme disease. We expect attendance of approximately 200, with advance
coverage from the Westchester media. There will be ample time for questions and
opportunities for one-on-one exchanges with our speakers during the course of
the evening.

-Dr. Kenneth
Liegner, a physician in Pawling, NY who specializes in treating patients with
tick-borne diseases. Dr. Liegner will discuss Lyme from a clinician’s
perspective and outline the common-sense steps that
every family can take to avoid, and if necessary recognize and treat tick bites
and Lyme disease.
-Dr. Kim
Lewis of Northeastern University who leads a LRA-funded team researching the
dynamics of “persister” Lyme bacteria that evade and survive antibiotic onslaught. Dr. Lewis will discuss the
future of Lyme medicine and what new treatments Lyme sufferers can expect to
see coming out of the research lab in the near future.
