White Plains to Vote on $193M Budget

White Plains residents will select two members for their school board and vote on the White Plains School District’s spending plan for the 2013-14 school year on Tuesday.

Voting takes place on Tuesday, May 21 from noon to 9 p.m.

“Our goal this year, during a challenging economic environment, was to strike an appropriate balance between the concerns of taxpayers and to maintain a cohesive and effective instructional program,” said White Plains Board of Education President Rosemarie Eller. “We believe the budget continues to provide quality educational programs for all students in the White Plains City Schools.”

The $193,400,000 budget represents an $4,578,000 increase over last year’s budget or 2.42 percent. Taxes will rise by 3.13 percent, which represents a tax rate of $583.21 per thousand dollars of assessed value.

For an average home assessed at $15,000 this means an annual increase of $265.65.

Absentee ballots are available by application through the district clerk’s office. For more information on the voting districts or absentee ballots contact call (914) 422-2071.
